]]>While we were staying in an RV park in Dubois, Wy they had the most awesome Cottonwood trees. They were huge and I have never seen bark on Cottonwoods like that before. They told us that they were very old and they were so very beautiful.

]]>Actually it's called "Thorncrown Chapel" and its in Eureka Springs Arkansas. It's in a beautiful setting and has the best view from inside.

Photo is done with a painterly effect with a texture by Florabella.

Nestled in a woodland setting, Thorncrown Chapel rises forty-eight feet into the Ozark sky. This magnificent wooden structure contains 425 windows and over 6,000 square feet of glass. It sits atop over 100 tons of native stone and colored flagstone. ]]>Said to be the oldest church structure built in the USA. The original adobe walls and altar were built by the Tlaxcalan Indians from Mexico, but much of the structure was rebuilt in 1710. Building has been within the U.S. since 1848 when New Mexico was annexed.

]]>A Christmas present from Mr. Harn to his wife. She picked it out of the Sears & Roebuck company catalog. It arrived from Chicago and was put up in 6 weeks in 1904. This beautiful old house can be seen at the Harn Homestead near the Capitol in Oklahoma City.

]]>An old Windpump sitting in the plains of Oklahoma west of the City.

Windpumps are used extensively on farms and ranches in the central plains and South West of the United States and in South Africa and Australia. These mills feature a large number of blades so that they turn slowly with considerable torque in low winds and be self regulating in high winds. A tower-top gearbox and crankshaft convert the rotary motion into reciprocating strokes carried downward through a rod to the pump cylinder below. The farm wind pump was invented by Daniel Halladay in 1854. In early California and some other states the windmill was part of a self-contained domestic water system including a hand-dug well and a redwood water tower supporting a redwood tank and enclosed by redwood siding (tankhouse). Eventually steel blades and steel towers replaced wooden construction, and at their peak in 1930, an estimated 600,000 units were in use. The multi-bladed wind turbine atop a lattice tower made of wood or steel hence became, for many years, a fixture of the landscape throughout rural America.

I thought this little lady was going to crawl into the car with us. It was a very rough year for these guys with their lakes and creeks drying up in the refuge.

]]>I can't tell you the name of this old place, but what I can tell you is that it is and the old mine in the far background part of the Red Mountain Mining District in the San Juan Mountains of Colorado. This area can be found off of the Million Dollar Highway.

]]>This beautiful old church which was formally the old Immaculate Conception Mission is finally getting a make over. On Aug 22, 2011 a new foundation was being poured for the church to sit upon, the beginning of the church being restored. The church now bears the name Sunnyside Chapel.

This beautiful part of Creede's history sits in front of the Creede Cemetery (formally called Sunnyside Cemetery) looking down on the town of Creede, Colorado on the Bachelor Loop Tour.

]]>The Lake Overholser Bridge in Oklahoma City is a proud reminder of Route 66. Construction of the Overholser Bridge began in 1924 and the bridge opened for traffic in August of 1925. For more than three decades the bridge served as a critical link for motorists traveling across the State and country. In 1958, the Federal Government took action, replacing this segment of Route 66 with a new four-lane divided highway just to the north. The new section included a wider bridge, while local traffic continued to pass over the Lake Overholser Bridge.

Today it carries only local traffic, yet the symmetry and size of the old bridge still catch the eye of drivers speeding by on the more recent replacement lanes just north of the bridge. Officially, the Overholser Bridge lost its association with Route 66 in 1958, but its size and symmetry and long-time service as part of old Route 66, make it a landmark today for anyone traveling America’s Mother Road. The bridge was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2004.

]]>Elkhorn Tavern served as a physical center for the American Civil War Battle of Pea Ridge also known as the Battle of Elkhorn Tavern, which was fought on March 7 and March 8, 1862, approximately five miles east of Pea Ridge, Arkansas, located in the northeastern Benton County, Arkansas. The tavern, a replica built in 1865 following the burning of the original building by Union troops, is now the centerpiece of the Peak Ridge National Military Park.

]]>Toba is the resident Orangutan in the Oklahoma City Zoo. She's such a sweet thing sitting on her swing curious to what is going on around her. I love to watch her. When she moves it's like she's always in slow motion, very gentle in her moves. I found out this day that she was born on July 2, 1967 in Nuremberg, Germany which makes her 44 yrs old.
