Before the crowds arrived and the roads of Cades Cove came alive, I found Dan Lawson’s historic homestead wrapped in the quiet beauty of an early Smoky Mountain morning. A heavy veil of fog drifted through the cove, softening the mountains and giving the old barn and smokehouse an almost dreamlike presence.
