Along the Misty Road

There are mornings in the Great Smoky Mountains when the landscape seems to disappear into the mist, leaving only the quiet road ahead and the silhouettes of trees emerging from the fog.

This photograph was taken on a particularly foggy, misty morning in Cades Cove, where autumn color surrounded the winding road and softened every distant detail. The cool haze settled across the landscape, creating an almost dreamlike stillness. Along the roadside, a survey marker stands quietly among the trees - a small reminder of the human presence within this vast and timeless landscape.

With the damp pavement leading gently into the mist and the golden leaves glowing through the haze, the scene invites us to slow down and simply be present. For a moment, there is nowhere to hurry and nothing to hear but the quiet of the mountains.
