The Old Mill

Nestled among blooming dogwoods, colorful azaleas, and tranquil garden pathways, The Old Mill in North Little Rock, Arkansas, stands as one of the South's most beloved historic landmarks. This fine art landscape photograph captures the timeless beauty of the iconic water-powered grist mill, whose rustic stone architecture, cascading waterwheel, and serene reflection pond create a scene filled with charm, history, and Southern elegance.

Originally constructed in 1933 by developer Justin Matthews, The Old Mill—also known as Pugh's Mill—was designed as a romantic recreation of an 1880s Arkansas grist mill. The structure gained national recognition when it appeared in the opening scenes of the 1939 film Gone with the Wind and is widely believed to be the only surviving structure associated with the classic movie. Though it appears centuries old, the mill was ingeniously built using tinted concrete sculpted to resemble weathered wood, iron, and native stone, featuring remarkable artistic details created by renowned Mexican sculptor Dionicio Rodriguez.

Perfect for living rooms, entryways, offices, libraries, waiting rooms, garden-themed spaces, historic home décor, vacation properties, and anyone who appreciates architecture, travel, or Southern history. The warm natural tones and storybook atmosphere make it an elegant focal point in both traditional and contemporary interiors.

My artwork is available as museum-quality paper prints, canvas prints, metal prints, and framed or unframed options. Select images are also available on home décor and lifestyle products including tote bags, coffee mugs, puzzles, greeting cards, and more.
