This image was taken in the Red Mountain Mining District in the San Juan Mountains off of Hwy 550 “The Million Dollar Highway”. It’s the Guston-Robinson Mine in the old ghost town of Guston. The town was established in the mid 1880s to serve three very large and rich mines, the Guston-Robinson, the Yankee Girl, and the Genesee-Vanderbilt. The peak population was 1,000…… also Guston had the only church in the area for many years.
