We had been watching this moose family on Slumgullion Pass in Colorado’s San Juan Mountains near the little mountain town of Lake City. On this morning, the cow and her calf were beginning to make their way higher up the mountainside, moving together with the quiet, deliberate pace of animals completely at home in the wilderness. Not far behind, the bull followed, keeping close to his family as they continued their journey uphill.
